Training & Volunteer Opportunities
There are a number of opportunities available to help raise awareness, educate policy makers, and give people affected by disability an active voice in the decisions that affect their lives and livelihoods.
- Host an ID Action Voter Training! - In 2008, more than 1500 ID Action registrants attended voter trainings that featured hands-on practice with new voting machines and opportunities to talk one-on-one with the candidates. These workshops were very popular – so we’re doing them again! ID Action is looking for organizational partners to host this year’s Voter Workshops. The workshops will help you understand the voting process using interactive formats. The goal is to help Iowans of all abilities get more comfortable with voting, help them understand their rights as voters, and understand the importance of showing up on Election Day. If you are interested in hosting a Voter Workshop, call 1-866-432-2846 or email us at contactus@idaction.org. Call/email soon – time is running out and our dates are available on a first come, first serve basis.
- Apply for a Local Advocating Change Campaign Grant! Advocating for change is always important, which is why this year we'll be leaving the State Capitol behind and taking Advocating for Change Day to the streets, your streets. ID Action wants to work with you to plan and implement Advocating for Change campaigns and events in your own communities. If you have something that you want to change to make your city, county or state a better place for Iowans with disabilities, this is your chance to be heard. ID Action is offering a limited number of grants to individuals and groups to help organize local advocacy campaigns around disability-related issues. Grant awards of up to $2,000 are available for campaign activities that may include educational workshops, grassroots and coalition building activities and public forums. Since ID Action is a nonpartisan project, grants may not be used to advocate for a particular political party or candidate. Click here for more information and an application.
