Take Action Now!

Action Alerts are periodically placed here to help advocates with disabilities know when immediate action is needed on issues that may be important to them. We have no way of telling when they will be added, or when action is needed, so keep your eye on this page.

infoNET does not not take stands on or lobby for issues. We do post alerts on issues many of our advocates say are important to them, and let you know who to call if you care about that issue.

New Website Tool:
Our Grassroots Action Center makes
contacts with your legislators simple & fast.

Click below to use our new easy-to-use contact system.  It finds your legislators for you, addresses your email for you, and gives you tips on what to write.  Try it out!

Step One.  Go to the Action Center (click on picture above).

Step Two.  Sign in with your email address and zip code.  This tells the Action Center who you are.  The first time you use this tool, you need to verify your address and name. We need a street address or the system will not work (PO boxes will not work). You only need to do this once.

Step Three. You are now in the Action Center. You will be given the choice of advocating on a hot topic, or an issue of your choice.  Simply click on your choice.

Step Four. The system automatically finds your elected officials, and addresses and signs your email for you.  All you need to do is write your message (sometimes we’ll help you get started).  Then click “send.”

Step Five.  You will now have the option of forwarding our Action Center to a friend.  This allows friends to use the action center to contact their elected officials.

The Administrative Rules Review Committee is hearing comment from advocates and others about new rules on dependent adult abuse. The rules basically put into effect the laws passed by the legislature last year. These rules require all employees of health facilities and hospitals to be trained in detecting and reporting dependent adult abuse, and change the definition of dependent adult abuse to protect Iowa's dependent adults.  Hospitals and health care facilities are speaking in opposition to these rules changes, while groups like AARP and the Department on Aging are speaking in favor.  There is still time to take action - click here to see how.

Mental Health Parity - Take action on Mental Health Parity - and make sure mental illnesses are treated equally by health insurers. Click here to find out how.

Health Reform - Pooling - A state health care reform work group is asking small employers to share their experiences trying to get and keep affordable health insurance for their employees.  Click here to find out more.
